"Better" is a broad term; selling music is about appeal. The emcees I was thinking of when I typed that are much more hardcore, underground sound type cats. Macklemore (especially with Ryan Lewis' production) had a much more clean, palatable soundscape for the mainstream. For me....

Ill Bill >>>> Macklemore

It is true but at the same time I feel like I've heard those type of tracks ^^^ like a million times. I'd rather listen to ryan Lewis production and good songwriting nowadays than listen to the same old premo beats.

I hear what you are saying. Macklemore has a unique sound, which is one of the main reasons he took off. He speaks on subjects other rappers don't and he found his own lane.

Music being subjective, I can only speak for my own taste ya digg? I'll take a new Premo beat any day of the weak & twice on Sunday lol.

Macklemore blowing up to me was inevitable, because that style had been bubbling in the underground for a long time. Atmosphere came close, but Slug was a bit too raw to get sucked into the pop realm. Those Anticon dudes had a cult following in the early 00's, dudes like Louis Logic dropped way too early. Someone was gonna tap into the ethos of that image and crack into mainstream with it eventually

If he is a Legit nomination for that award then there can't be a great uproar if he wins.

If they gave it him because more people on earth enjoyed it so be it .
it's the Grammy's. Macklamore shouldn't revive hate because a entity , that most of this forum doesn't respect, chose him. By hating on him gives the Grammy's too much credit .

He doesn't rhyme half the time

The problem is average white artists getting a bigger push than phenomenal black ones.

Cacs can't seem to find a way to play fair in the business end of things which creates distrust and hostility.

Macklemore was a nobody with creative freedom a budget and push beyond urban radio so why wouldn't nikkaz question his emergence and success?

They are 70% of the population...they by default buy more records and attend more shows. Not only are they the majority of the fans but they control distribution side and promotion as well....The sheer fact that Eminem put a ceiling on all CAC rappers and Macklemore made it despite that is unbelievable breh

I'm not a fan of his music or message but let's not act like we don't have a monopoly on this rap shyt.

I can't even name 10 succesful white rappers in a majority white country
