Macklemore's no dummy nor delusional at least

I still think if lil wayne made thrift shop it would still be a hit, any goofy rapper if that.

Well Wayne ain't exactly some random "black dude"...he's an already wildly successful rapper with a massive fanbase...that's not really Macklemore's point...now if Big Krit or Danny Brown made thrift shop would it still be a hit is the better question that actually fits in context

“If you’re going to be a white dude and do this shyt, I think you have to take some level of accountability,” Haggerty says. “You have to acknowledge where the art came from, where it is today, how you’re benefiting from it. At the very least, just bringing up those points and acknowledging that, yes, I understand my privilege, I understand how it works for me in society, and how it works for me in 2013 with the success that The Heist has had.”

“We made a great album,” he continues, “but I do think we have benefited from being white and the media grabbing on to something. A song like ‘Thrift Shop’ was safe enough for the kids. It was like, ‘This is music that my mom likes and that I can like as a teenager,’ and even though I’m cussing my ass off in the song, the fact that I’m a white guy, parents feel safe. They let their six-year-olds listen to it. I mean it’s just…it’s different. And would that success have been the same if I would have been a black dude? I think the answer is no.”
I dont get it...yeah racism exists, but how are the black rap artist successful in the indie label or major label grind?

:ld: I respect this.
Has Eminem ever acknowledged his white privilege? If not, Macklemore gonna have to replace Em in my 1500 greatests rap artist at 1495.

second verse. start at 2:13

Whenever some dumb b*stard tells you Eminem didn't sell cause he's white... play that for them.

edit: The whole song, basically. but the 2nd verse can't be dodged in the name of "interpretation".

but goddamn Em used to nice on the mic..... :ohlawd:

Even though Cacklemore kept it real, this makes me emphatize with all the black underground rappers that would never get this same push:mjpls:

They also don't make catchy songs. Not sure why some of you think if any rapper gets a push they blow up, that just isn't the case.

He's right and his music is still annoying :yeshrug:
