That's crazy but that shows how ill this indie game can be if rappers smarten up. Why are the white rappers the only one taking advantage of this?? We gotta stop worrying about the majors.

Because most black rappers have indie fanbases that do NOT buy records. Why you think folks fukk with Future heavy yet he barely did half of what these white rappers did? Lupe was almost outsold by these dudes and he's been out for years. White people now have enough rappers like Macklemore, Mac Miller, and a few others that they can stick strictly to them without having to hear other types of rap. They no longer have to go to the radio to pick and choose their favorite rappers.

This is true... but he has been able to sell more records than Atmosphere ever has. There's a reason for that too. Though due to content alone, Mac Miller would have the most viable market.

I keep trying to tell folks. Those whole "I don't care about cac music, that's for them" mentality is getting played out. If these white folks have their own artists to support now that are "legit" to them, why would they bother with many of the other rappers out? You gonna start seeing a lot of cats struggling to stay afloat b/c their white counterpart got their fanbase.

His reaction on debuting @ #2

The fact that a small group people recording, mixing, editing videos and shipping albums from a 500 sq foot room can push 78,000 their first week is a testament to the fans. They are the ones that pushed this album, spread the word, and brought so much attention to what we do.

The music industry is coming to a point where what big companies have on their agenda can’t compete with what the people want. You guys who supported this album made it #2 on the Billboard charts. No big budget, no cosigns, no radio department. Just people that connect and care about the art enough to buy it, stand behind it and spread it amongst friends and family. 78,000 sold independently. I could have never dreamed this. Thank you all. #sharkfacegang
