Because Tim Duncan was never far and away the best player. Duncan is elite and one of the best but I don't think it's stupid to believe he was never iconic in that regard the same way Kobe and Shaq were, they have a following that's global.

Magic is still stuck in the 80's and 90's era of thinking that your fame is defined by how many commercials you are in and how many magazines covers you have. I think Magic has a basic understanding of how the internet works but not the little things like how it has taking over they way athletes are marketed.
