Main Source - Just A Friendly Game Of Baseball:

This is the music I'm on. fukk all this bullshyt music today where these hoe ass artists are either scared to speak on it, or they on some peaceful "why they dont like us?!" shyt:camby:

This could very well be an appreciation thread for the whole album, but I think there's one on here already:patrice:

Anyway, THIS is what hip-hop is supposed to be about. Now, it is so corporate that these "emcees" are being careful about what they say:camby:

how relevant is this song right now?

Large Pro :blessed:
More relevant than songs out currently:obama:
"my life is valuable & i protect it like a gem/instead of cops getting me, i'm out gettin them/its grim, but dead is my antonym"

large pro in the early 90s was one of the best lyricists imo. really dope remix on the boyz n the hood sdtk:

The Set
Songs like this remind me how far we've fallen, not too many rappers taking a stand. just sweeping shyt under the rug... I remember during the Rodney King riots, groups like Public Enemy were the soundtrack all around the country. What is the theme music of today? And when was the last time we got some "fukk The Police" music from a legit artist? Rap used to be CNN now that shyt is UPN, Just a bunch of reruns and fukkery to keep you entertained.

Damn was just about to make a thread on this song with the exact same title and got beaten to it. :bryan:

"My life is valuable and I'll protect it like a gem, instead of cops shooting me I'm going out shooting THEM" :whew:

You can just hear the anger and disgust in his voice when he's spitting the lyrics. A rapper stating he actually values his black life and will bust shots at the pigs to preserve it, while using metaphors is fukking powerful. No mainstream rapper would ever make this song today.

He's still one of my favorite rappers. Like, even on Stay Chiseled, Nas is obvi technically better but Large owns that song for me.

"6 pack don motivator, throwin' the weight up"

his swag is very based. very pure.
