I hated assembly language with a passion. I never tried so hard in a class before just to try and get a C. I bombed the first assignment. I couldn't even get it to run but I refused to drop that class because I wasn't going to take that crap again. I use to stay up sometimes until 2 am trying to get a program to run. I end up getting a B in the class but that class almost turned me off to programming.

Yeah it really shouldn't be a 100 class. At this point its more of comp theory than anything. Its not required to do 95% of dev jobs unless you work with very limited integrated systems (like the chip inside of a basic thermostat).

Modern programming has become extremely intuitive and is nothing like Assembly at all

i used to do shyt in JCL and COBOL on mainframes for an internship i did years ago and i thought those languages were archaic but assembly takes the cake
Man and I complain about c not having garbage collection...

What do you think people in Bio do? I'm always amazed how easy people think Bio is like it doesn't include genetics, biochem, physics, hard stats.

Anyway, the only class that ever had me shook was molecular bio. Orgo, p-chem, genetics, cell bio, loved it but that molecular bio damned near threatened by gpa.

I will say that looking back, I wish I'd stuck with engineering solely for comp sci classes ( and that huge paycheck for my gap years). I'm finding I REALLY like doing science with that quantitative edge. I'm currently learning R and Python and the power behind those programs for ANY type of data is amazing. Has me thinking I should go back to school for bioinformatics rather than immunology or at least do a dual program for that type of thing. One girl I work with is a Neuroscience PhD candidate and she's already looking at industry offers for 100k+ doing brain genomics stuff.

Python alone will get your foot in the door almost anywhere.

1 + 1 in any high level language = 1 line of code. Maybe 2 if you want a system print out.

1 + 1 in Assembly = like 17 lines of code :dead:

Gotta call a memory address
Load the data point "1" into that address
Call another memory address
Load the 2nd "1"
Recall the those 1 memory address
Binary add using the Operation code for addition (which changes based on the processors instruction set)
Store that value into a third memory address
Call that memory address

And then, if you want to print it out so you can actually see your answer.... well :deadmanny:

Assembly will have you celebrating the basic shyt. I would be over there like "I just did 2x2+4 :krs:!!!!"

My roommate probably like "This nikka remedial..... :heh:"

Dang this bring back nightmares. I took a Java class the semester after I took assembly programming. It felt like I went from building a car from the ground up to just driving a car. Never had to stay up late working on a project and always finished up programming days before the due date.

my mentor edits for him. He should have majored in writing cause he needs to do better.

Question: Is there any real reason to learn a low level language like assembly? That shyt just looks like a headache for no reason

I've been thinking about learning that:patrice:...might make that a personal and professional goal for 2018.

Python will probably become like SQL where its just something everyone needs to know the basics of since its so useful.

Keep in mind knowing a language and being good at software development are two different things.
