Playing three seasons for the Milwaukee Bucks has taught Malcolm Brogdon many things about life on and off the court.

In an interview with The Guardian's Donald McRae, Brogdon highlighted the level of segregation and lack of progressiveness he's seen in the city of Milwaukee.

"Before I came to Milwaukee I'd heard the city was the most segregated in the country," Brogdon said. "I'd heard it was racist. When I got here it was extremely segregated. I've never lived in a city this segregated. Milwaukee's very behind in terms of being progressive. There are things that need to change rapidly.”

Milwaukee's lack of diversity has been talked about before by people within the Bucks organization.

During a September 2016 appearance at the Rotary Club of Madison, team president Peter Feigin made the following comments about the city, via Dennis Punzel of the Wisconsin State Journal:

"We know we can't cure the world. But we are very determined to get ourselves involved in programs that we can measure a difference in and put our claws into for a long period of time and show a difference.

"Very bluntly, Milwaukee is the most segregated, racist place I've ever experienced in my life. It just is a place that is antiquated. It is in desperate need of repair and has happened for a long, long time. One of our messages and one of our goals is to lead by example."

Feigin later backed down from those comments in a statement: "I was addressing a question about the social, economic and geographic divides that exist and how we can help address them. It wasn't my intention to characterize the general community as overtly racist."

Brogdon's comments about Milwaukee's lack of integration have proven to be accurate. A study released by the Brookings Institution in January found the city had the highest black-white segregation rate from 2013-17 at 79.8 percent.

The third-year guard noted the Bucks' owners have encouraged players to be "forward thinking" and "speak out for what is good and right.”

Brogdon is currently in his third season with the Bucks. He was born in Atlanta and attended college at the University of Virginia before being a second-round draft pick by Milwaukee in 2016.

Nah Chicago & Milwaukee are easily the most segregated. Not surprising seeing how many people from here move to Milwaukee
Breh, I promise you when I moved to Detroit from grades 7 through 12 I had ONE white classmate...and I went to big ass public schools. I lived on the west side of Detroit. There wasn't a white person in sight. I used to be on the east side of Detroit all the time with my best friend...only white folks living there was a small Polish community that's been there since before the riots and never left.

It's inconceivable to me that Chicago can be more segregated than Detroit.

1st Round Playoff Exits
Interesting topic. Let's a have a conversation.

Chicago is that segregated?

And why would people move to Milwaukee?

I guess you're referencing white flight.

I remember I was talking with this white chick at the bar, earlier this year. We had great chemistry, but then mentioned being from Milwaukee and visiting family every year, and I was like fukk that. I don't care if we were damn near soul mates. I could never subject myself to that.

SIDE NOTE: Detroit is an anomaly, even on global standards. Detroit is not the norm, even in comparison to other similar cases such as STL, Cleveland, and the like. Detroit was shaped by two major riots in less than 20 years, on top of the globalization and mismanagment of it's one and only backbone industry. Throw the politics of Coleman Young and the challenges he faced racially, and now you are faced with UNPRECEDENTED white flight. There goes 65 percent of your tax base, if you just want to talk population stats.

As for the topic on hand

My girl is from Milwaukee. She put it into perspective how fukked up everything is there.

Basically it's what the media wants to portray Chicago as. Same gangs, same social issues, worst economic situation. Thank God we are getting devils like Scott Walker and Paul Ryan the fukk out of here, but there is much work to be done.

I mean there's a study linked in the article from the OP. So yeah, Detroit used to be the most segregated, but now it's Milwaukee.

due to gentrification Phoenix metro is becoming like that or trying to

But the mexican increase in population will prevent it from happening.

these mexicans are everywhere whether that be on the West, downtown or East side of the valley.

2000 is when I was getting out of HS so those numbers kind of reinforced my initial point...growing up Detroit was several percentage points higher as a segregated city than the current day Milwaukee Brogdan has experienced.

It's also obvious that the recent gentrification element I mentioned has dropped that number significantly within the last 13-17 years.
