It’s a very common for cast members on these tv shows to not really like each other. Your right it’s just like a job. Walk on set do what they have to do and go home.
Yep hell its people thats been fukking for 10 years who cant stand each other lol.

True as this is why is the general public so naive that they should be forcefully protected from consuming stereotypes about themselves. In reality those type of shows and media shouldn't have support.

Cosby fought and lost that battle because people themselves still have an appetite for those stereotypes. Since he's been gone we got the horrible tyler Perry sitcoms and the stuff UPN was on.

Not even touching on anything outside visual media but it's all the same. Buffoonery is in and people tune into it. It's like tryna save addicts by hiding the drugs. That ain't no cure or remedy. When folks stop being entertained by such shyt then there will be change. That's all there is to it. As long as is entertaining there will be opportunists to milk that.

What is your take on Nollywood films and people consuming stereotypes about themselves ?

I think they have a long way to go but they call the over acting their style. I don't fukk with it but then again I'm not Nigerian....

I know what you tried to do breh :lolbron:
No, it wasn't a trap question. I see parallels between mid 90s wb/upn shows(that I mostly enjoyed) and some of the Nollywood comedies that I've watched(and mostly enjoyed)..
I'm sure at least half of the jokes and references go over my head but most people who have been exposed to both would instantly get that it's a legit comparison.

Sorry didn't mean to imply it was trap. I see the parallels too but I don't like the films to be honest. Maybe that's my problem with em, I could see something like Tyler's Meet the Browns being a Nollywood show :russ: The comedy stylings are not for me. I was actually thinking about Nollywood recently and wondering if they have things that fall outside comedy... They have a major audience with women which is how I've seen most so far.

Them Lo Lifes...
It's a book out there about how networks like Fox, WB & UPN start with an overwhelming amount of Black programming when they start to gain viewers and then abandon that demographic as soon as the station pops.

Here's an article "
This Isn't The First Time Network TV Discovered Black People
NPR Choice page

Here's the book
51vR3V0yT3L._AC_SY400_.jpg

Color by Fox
"The result was that even the shows trying the hardest to deal with thorny racial themes on screen?such as Roc, South Central and New York Undercover?were, sooner or later, forced by the network to avoid controversial or unconventional material. Often the shows were canceled outright, or control was given to white producers."
Yeah.

We thought it was a renascence of black programming, when it really was a plan to use our viewership to validate Neilson Ratings, sell ad space, and eventually cease all shows with an eventual or advantageous merger.

TYRONE GA!
Martin clowned c00ns. His show was definitely not c00nish. He was a chilll, regular brother whose neighbors irritated him with their low rent behavior. But Martin himself had a stable job and a loving relationship, along with friendships with people who were very similar. Calling Martin a c00n misses the entire point of the show. :francis:

Martin was just acting silly and stupid and nothing was wrong with that. It was funny.

But the things that cats shyt on shows today calling it c00nery would absolutely apply to some of the shyt on Martin. nikkaz shyt on Tyler for the dress with Madea but ready to start Juelzing when talking about Sheneneh and Martin's mom character being stereotypical and overboard. Call a spade a spade. People will ALWAYS cop pleas for shyt they like. I know I'm guilty of it sometimes too.

Problem is that why can't we have shows where we just act silly/stupid without the woke/shea butter nikkaz calling it c00nery? Cacs make silly shows/movies all the time with no problem. We do it and it's c00nery. The stereotypes we see on some of these shows hit home because we know mufukkaz like the stereotypical characters portrayed. The thing is making it like ALL or the MAJORITY of us act that way all the time. Gotta have balance.

good point about double standards and juelzing.

Perfect example of doing it in way that people can laugh at the character, without getting offended is how Ron on Different World was ...he was the odd man out.in a show full of serious characters ..and he was comic relief.

A show full of Rons would have been too much. Show full of Dwayne Waynes would have been too much.
They show ADW on Bounce TV and there was very good content and acting on that show before the final seasons.
