What are you recommendation for someone that wants to get into sales but has no sales experience and only customer service experience but does not want a grindy sales jobs?

Im currently in my final year of college studying business computing (half of my degree is IT/comp sci the other half is business) i live in europe and in the city in in there are maad tech companies and almost all of them have saas sales jobs anything from bdr inside sales renewals pre sales customer sucess to account executive . However where im getting fukked over i think is that i have 0 sales experience only customer service however i think if i change my CV around abit i might be able to snatch a sales jobs as all of these companies require you to know an additional European language from English which i have.

I did apply for a Inside Sales Engineer position at one big cybersec company and got a call scheduled with the recruiter on monday

I work in sales and I’m not sure you’re going to find a sales job that pays a lot of money that it isn’t a grind. Your job is literally talking to as many people as possible and getting as many yes, as possible. The more people you talk too, the more yes you get, the more money you make.

Sales is the definition of a grind position if you trying to make six figures. If you willing to work, the money is there.

How did you deal with adversity in your role or coming up? I’m a young black breh 6 months into my sales career in the logistics industry.

I’ve hit all my sales metrics, bonuses, and KPIs. However, it seems like my success doesn’t matter. Seems my wins are taken for granted, almost like its to be expected. And one wrong move from me brings the ire of my leadership.

I deal with it by working harder and focus on work more, but it sucks to feel like my leadership doesn’t give a fukk about me

maybe my wording was bad what i meant to say is i dont want to slave away as a Business Development Representative for example and have to earn my stripes i want to to use the leverage i have to either stay as a bdr a short time as possible or go straight into more senior roles

A few Floors Down from the Daily Grind

Getting that first sales job is always the hardest. Business Development Rep is always your best bet in North America. I worked for a Dutch company for almost 7 years, so I know the employment contracts are much different, it’s harder to get fired/ switch jobs and the pay is generally lower than what you would make in a major metro area in the States.

The normal path is to get a business development job somewhere tied into a field you plan to pursue. SaaS is hot and growing and the future and can translate to any vertical.....but you should think a step down: Who do I want to eventually sell to if I were to grow in in my career? IT? Sales? Marketing? Business to business? Business to consumer? Do I want to have a “boxed” role at a large company, or a “many hats” role at a smaller one? Thinking those things ahead of
Time will really help you craft your story on your CV.

Also, be prepared that you’re using your first BDR job as JUST a job to get your next job, most likely at a different company., which means swallow your pride and take ANY BDR job as long as it aligns with where you want to go.

You should also read the job descriptions the companies your interested in are posting for their roles and mimic ANYTHING you do in customer service to it wherever possible. The larger the firm, the higher the likelihood is that they scan resumes with software before you ever have an HR person touch it.

Sales is a career where people expect you to leave jobs, especially in this day an age.

If you are hitting quota AND KPIs and still feel under appreciated (and most importantly, underpaid) you should 1000% be planning your next job. I would aim to make sure you can hit your full quota for the year before you leave, that way you can say “President Club” even if your company doesn’t have one.

I made the mistake of becoming too attached to the personal satisfaction quotient in a few jobs early on where I felt like you felt but was conflicted about leaving because of the clients I brought in, service I provided, other team members I like etc.

You need to treat yourself like a micro business: You are a seat that provides revenue to companies and the better your service is, the more you charge for it.

A huge percentage of the population would never even attempt sales, even fewer stick with it and only a few are ever really good at it. If you find you have a knack for it, becoming ruthless with how you sell yourself.

Sale is probably the most draining job that I could think of. Been working in IT for 8 years now and get calls all day from recruitment services...I’m good where I’m at but I’m always willing to listen to opportunities

That feeling when a prospect gives every objection in the book and you have 35 rebuttals ready to close that ass :mjlit:

Care to share what tips you learned on the way ? ... like in terms of managing teams, keeping to targets and the like.

It's always good to pick the brains of high performance individuals. I for one never want to be that "a$$hole"
who knows everything.

Have you ever thought of buying your own firm ? If not... why not ?

Hey it happens to the best of us. There usually two types of executives... one with brilliant ideas and poor execution
or those that execute well but lack creative problem solving. Very rare do you find the thinker with military follow through
