Honestly it’s a dead genre

We’ve had 1 artist (Giveon) with actual mainstream success in this genre since Bryson Tiller in 2015

Giveon is also a product of the drake stimulus

You can go months and not come across a male R&B songs these days

There’s really nobody the blame. Everyone prefers rap.

nikkas too cool to really sing like that these days. nikkas can't bring themselves to scrunch up they face and hit them soulful notes no more. :manny:

I just thank God I can fall back on classic R&B from the late 70's to the early 90's. The genre been dead since then.
It’s not that they’re too cool

It’s hard to be motivated to create something that there isn’t a market for

I listen to the breaking R&B playlist on AM all the time and it’s about 75% female artist

Male R&B singers of today, generalizing of course, are just rappers who can sing...that's the problem. I can't listen to that shyt.

Even when their content isn't some rapper shyt, which is rare, the f'n beat is some rap shyt, smh.

And I 1000% prefer Soul/R&B over Rap, it's not even close...just not these new cats, :gag:

You just gotta search. There’s some dope artist out there, just off my playlist I listen to I have

Miguel
Pink $weats
Giveon
Thundercat
Anderson Paak
SiR
John Legend
ToBi
Blood Orange
Majid Jordan

(I know some of these are kind of “alternative”)

the days of R&B being huge are over, but honestly pop/trap is the only thing that’s big anymore so just find stuff you like and support those artist so they can keep putting stuff out

I’ve heard all of them on the radio recently except Pink Sweat$. Even my 71 year old mom knows Anderson Paak and John Legend from tv appearances. What’s mainstream? Mainstream has changed drastically now days. You have artist that’s I’ve never heard of having huge fan bases, the world isn’t so black and white anymore. The massive crossover stars are the exception now days not the rule like in the past. Same with movies, the days of mega stars are done.

Nah fam, coz even female R&B has the same exact problem which is why everybody sounds the same. None of these broads can really sing.

No it’s not that deep.

John legend has been in the public eye for 20 years at this point and his wife is more famous than him. When is the last time John legend made something anyone cares about ?

I wouldn’t call Paak. Mainstream either. When has music ever reach anyone outside of his core?
