1) There is a reason why we have 2 kidneys and not 1...

2) It's hard to find a match, and matches have similar DNA...Therefore, if the receiver's kidneys shut down because of mechanical injury, that's not as bad as if they shut down because of a disease process, because that means, you also have a risk of your kidney shutting down, since you and the recipient are a genetic match...

So, who is going to give you a kidney if the 1 you have shuts down...?
