We’re easy to kill, that’s the main thing. You can’t lord over an animal that knows you’re food. They become even more of a danger to the entire zoo staff. God forbid it escaped and realized it’s surrounded by a relatively easy food source

Edit: another compelling reason is learned behavior to offspring. Can’t have lions teaching their cubs to get that human it’s food
