it's a thing we've been socialized to do, it is not correct or incorrect.

I am a person that holds doors, I am a person that says thank you when doors are held for me, this is how I was socialized, however, I do not take it as a slight if people do not say thank you in response to me holding a door open that they would have opened themselves if I wasn't holding it open.
