Bout 4-5 years ago when those states was having that issue with the Confederate flag, I made 15 bands in 2 months off of selling little 7x9 Confederate flags with the loop on the side to go on cars. Like them sports teams flags, but it was a confederate joint. Been side hustling shyt off Ali for years, and when the controversy first started bubbling I just asked one of the dudes I get stuff from on there if he could produce a confederate flag. He was like yeah and bout 2 weeks later I had boxes of them bytches sitting in my living room. I was paying like $1 and some change per unit, and selling for 15-20 bucks. The Saturday that chick climbed the pole at the SC state capitol and took the flag down I made 2 grand on eBay on just that one day. By the time eBay announced they was banning ads with confederate stuff I was on Bonanza and Craiglist making even more than I was on eBay just cuz eBay saying and doing that made the controversy that much bigger. Like these dumb ass rednecks was acting like the flag was about to be made illegal or some shyt, and it was a huge run on folks buying them. I probably could’ve made even more, but I shot myself in the foot. I had “Union Jack” at the end of my listing title among other key words, didn’t know any better and really didn’t even care. And some white dude sent me bout a 8 paragraph long message about how the flag was never called that and how I was disrespecting the history and memory of the confederate cause by not calling it the right thing. I sent dude a message back like yo I’m a Black dude from NW Atlanta, I’m just trying to get a quick check. No clue what he told he told them folks but the next morning my profile on Bonanza was banned.
And before y’all come for me let me just say that I think the way they are proud of the Confederate flag is bout the dumbest shyt ever, they deserve to be exploited for that, at the end of the day they repping a side that didn’t just lose, but got utterly destroyed in a fight. It took the south damn near 100 years to recover from that ass whooping. That’s like me rocking one of them throw away Super Bowl shirts, you know the ones they print up for both teams but ship the losing teams shirt to some 3rd world country and give away. If I pulled up with Falcons Super Bowl LI champions shirt, y’all nikkas would roast me. I also am very well aware that they try and use it to make us feel uncomfortable, but it doesn’t work on me. I just laugh at that shyt. Cuz they dumb as fukk, and all I see are easy marks to take advantage of. They do it to my people, with the liquor stores and hair weave shops all in our hoods. I’m just giving some of that energy back to them in my own little way and at the same time making my bottom line just a little bit fatter.
