Those things used to hang on the block with Tyrannosaurus Rex and Velociraptors....they've paid their dues....

:hubie:

i'm out

But that's what makes them so interesting! Sharks too, I suppose. The fact that nature perfected their design so well on the first attempt that they have barely needed to evolve at all in hundreds of millions of years.

I don't especially understand why sharks are so well designed, but with crocodiles it's easy to see. They camp on an essential resource that everything else needs (water) and then ambush snipe any target that gets too close. It isn't very sportsmanlike, but it is incredibly effective :pachaha:

Camping on a water source and ambush sniping is a niche that has basically always been present, which is why they haven't needed to evolve much.

NO they cant...They only eat dead hippos and it takes dozens of them to do it...

The one I linked earlier, Gustave the ~20 footer (nobody knows his size exactly because he's never been caught), has been seen killing an adult hippo single handed. That wasn't caught on camera.

But what was caught on camera was a big cow that he killed. About the same weight class as a hippo, albeit they don't have the fighting or swimming skills of hippos so it would admittedly have been easier for the croc.

Also the hippos gave that cow a funeral. They all went up and inspected the body closely, and then sat on the location surrounding the body for a couple of hours. That suggests to me that they gave the cow a funeral in lieu of the hippo brother they lost, because they couldn't find the body to give it a funeral. So they transferred their ritual over to the cow. Otherwise, why would they give a funeral for an animal from a whole different species? Again, this funeral was all caught on tape. Time stamp 38.30:

Gustave's interactions with hippos have also been caught on cameras. They're shook of him, they consider him a real threat. They wouldn't do that for any ordinary crocodile.

I think in a one-on-one fight he would beat a hippo. The issue is that hippos are herd animals and crocodiles are not, so it's usually many hippos against one or two crocodiles, and they can't win because they're outnumbered. One on one, a proper giant crocodile has got a fighting chance against a hippo.

Anyway, we're going off topic. If Gustave can eat a cow, which has been caught on camera, then a regular sized crocodile can easily eat a man

But this is the thing I keep trying to explain to people. Humans have opossible thumbs. They have abilities to make them believe this life is more special.

I'd like to read the dolphin qu'ran.

I'd like to read the elephant torah

I'd like to listen to the rhino's first album

Why do crocodiles have such a lack of museums and artwork?

:dead: Obviously nobody is saying they're better than humans in any way, we are an apex species like this planet has never seen. But crocodiles and sharks have incredible longevity which makes them interesting too. Otherwise why learn about biology at all. You might as well be a humanities & social science specialist if you're going to insist that humans are the only interesting species on earth

Lol at evolution. What have we witnessed evolve in real time (no virus/bacteria)? They were simply designed how they were designed.
