It's a Boeing 787-8, there were MANY problems with this plane, including the electrics, the batteries, the composite material used and falsified safety records. I wouldn't be surprised if this was another instance of Boeing cutting corners with disastrous results.

If it were a maintenance issue, then it wouldn't be Boeing's fault, it would the airlines.
