As part of an extensive alternate reality game (ARG), thousands of community members across the world worked together to unlock the gameplay reveal date for Bungie's upcoming extraction shooter Marathon.

On Saturday, April 12 at 10 am PDT (San Francisco) / 1 pm EDT (New York) / 6 pm BST (London) / 7 pm CEST (Berlin/Paris) / 9 pm GST (Dubai) OR Sunday, April 13 at 2 am JST (Tokyo) / 3 am AEST (Sydney) / 5 pm NZST (Auckland), Bungie developers will premiere Marathon gameplay, news, and updates. Marathon is a team-based extraction shooter and the first completely new project from Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny, in more than a decade. Set on the mysterious planet of Tau Ceti IV, Marathon will see players inhabit the bodies of Runners, cybernetic mercenaries who have been designed to survive the planet's harsh environments. While exploring the lost colony that once inhabited the surface, players will search for valuable loot including new weapons and gear.

They obviously started this when Escape from Tarkov started to get huge, but there have been multiple extraction shooters since and none have caught on. We'll see if Bungie can crack the code and convince the casual audience to enter the genre.

Well.. the gunplay will be good at least. Did they make an actual game worth of content or just the skeleton of a good game that fails to launch, that’s the question.

All I know is if it’s not good, a lot of these content creators and playtesters got some explaining to do in where the feedback went.

It isn't something debatable, HD2 just isn't an extraction game unless you are stupid enough to think "extraction" games are just games where you extract at the end.
