We need to stop viewing this as a race thing and perceive it as a region thing. People of all backgrounds are more susceptible to Bernies message in the Midwest, East Coast and Northeast than they are in the South. Hillary still has an incredible name brand, but economically, African-Americans agree with more of Sanders' platform (this does not mean that they are analyzing it, just that on a general level the views align). Basically, if this was not a Clinton, a progressive would have won this election on the democratic side. Sanders' coalition is the future (and present). It is actually remarkable to see. Hillary will not be given nearly as much leeway from the left wing as Obama had. People just had 8 years of "I got you in the future."
