The issue is, in 2016 and 2017, there were more teams with cap space and more bad GMs. Grunfeld was an idiot signing Mahinmi and the Nets were stupid to throw a max at Otto which the Wiz had to match cause they didn't have cap room anyway and can't lose a young guy for nothing.

This summer and 2019 there won't be a lot of teams with cap room.

Marcus Smart may get that type of contract from... Dallas? Phoenix? Hawks? There's not a lot of teams with raw cap room.
