Christina Milian, Mya, Faith Evans, Ciara, Ashanti. See how short lived their careers were? None of them had a career by their third albums (or at least not at the same height from the start).

The only ones who have true longevity and are light skinned are Beyonce, Rihanna and Alicia Keys.

Outside of them, 95% of successful R&B/Neo Soul acts haven’t been lightkskined. I’m not saying colorism doesn’t play a part in crossing over, but the fact so many have failed even when they fit “Eurocentric standards” proves there’s way more to it than that.
