and she had fake t*ts prior to/while her mixtapes were starting to get burn

and absolutely no fans are playing her music or more into her for her nose job...wtf, that was one of the most clowned changes

It's about opportunities and platforming as well

Singers who have a certain aesthetic get better platforming ... More engagement

Of course their is more to factor in

no they didn't. sza was highly anticipated since dropping Z and found success before doing her body. most people enjoy her CTRL look which was simply weight loss and some good makeup & hair

summer walker had surgery in her stripper days and has been clowned relentlessly for continuing to have work done. on the flip, women like nicki, cardi (black adjacent when she wants to be) , latto, and glorilla have had to remix their faces/bodies to get on as well. this aint a color thing

lastly, coco jones makes boring ass music...she gets gassed for making shyt deborah cox would've recorded in the 90's and then her fans wonder why it aint skyrocketing :dead:

As if Mariah isn't heavily influenced by 90s, 00s r&b

CTRL SZA looks like a totally different person than Z SZA lol

Again it's not just about skin color but that plays a role

Or maybe it's a coincidence SZA platform grew the the more aesthetically pleasing she became

Same with Summer who seems like she got addicted

that's a given...but glow up doesn't always = surgery. SZA's Z was heavily praised, and CTRL was anticipated either way and she blew up off that album without surgery. "all the stars" took her to another level and then SOS was another beast all while pretty much every old fan hated her look SOS/BBL look

summer's "platforming" blew up from drake, not surgery. but summer had already connected with women. if light skin = auto win, jorja smith would've actually lived up to the platform she was given by drake

No one arguing light skin = auto win but it helps
Depending on the market it can help a lot

Cardi B was a dark skinned woman I guarantee you she wouldn't be where she is today

Y'all bring up SZA, Summer Walker and other darker skinned artist as if they aren't attractive and also objectively more talented than Mariah

Who is the darker skinned equivalent to Mariah

She's obviously not a strong singer but this sort of R&B has its appeal now, that breathy-almost-talking-singing seems to resonate with a lot of folks

Not everyone can be Sarah Vaughan :manny:

:russ: Where was this light-skinned privilege for Tinashe lol? Not to say that colorism isn’t a thing, but these light-skinned female acts aren’t doing better than their dark-skinned counterparts. I mean, Ella Mai and Halle Bailey dropped an album like a week ago, and nobody cared. The only female R&B acts that are selling are Summer and SZA. And both of them are far from light-skinned. The same people who agreed with ol girl’s opinion. Probably don't actually support/buy Coco Jones, Ari Lennox, Normani, or any other dark-skinned singer's projects. Outside of using them in online colorism wars.
this, it's ridiculous.

You keep arguing two things. No one would deny being attractive at any shade helps. But you started off saying these darker skinned women needed surgery to get where they are and that’s not true

And what is Mariah? She’s literally just a streaming/social media artist that’s been around for years building a small fan base, and finally has a song in heavy rotation right now. I’m not sure what’s impressive about that to compare a brown skin woman to. But Justine Skye would be the equivalent, girl became a “celebrity” for being attractive and put out a shyt ton of mid music. On the flip, you can look another marginal but pretty light skin chick like Dani Leigh who went absolutely nowhere, let’s not undermine the work Mariah has done to build her fans with “light skin privilege”

Edit: and her relationship with Thug being on display during the trial definitely helped boost her, which again, is not about complexion
