Not having the option to just do classic 3-lap races online is a serious miss though. I don't need the generic interstate racing portions. The tracks are clearly more polished than the connective tissue between them.

8.2 for a mainline Mario title, I thought Nintendo stans would be running them critic scores up90 on Metacritic, 8.2 from user reviews.

Yeah I found that an interesting choice. At first I thought it wasn't a good thing either.
But balance wise it's actually a smart play, the reason being that in previous Mario Karts, there's too much going on in each course, turns/shortcut wise for there to be any straightaways, which meant that there was a heavy skew on acceleration/handling characters. Not now, now you have to know your map and each character/kart isn't one size fits all.

A welcome addition and change to the Mario Kart formula. Furthermore, might be the GOAT kart racer. My posting history has always proclaimed Sonic All-Stars Transformed as the GOAT but I don't know any more and while I don't want to be prisoner of the moment but there are a more than a few tracks here that are all timers here. Not just for the series but for racing games in general. Rainbow Road is such a stunning achievement breh. Just fukking wow at that track breh.
