Mariota is an overrated gimmick QB with limited accuracy and anticipation throwing from the pocket. Proof:

Marcus Mariota, QB: -2.0

Breakdown: The Heisman Trophy favorite saw plenty of support for his performance, given that he left the field throwing for two touchdowns and rushing for three more. That doesn’t tell the whole story, however, and, in reality, he should have been picked off several times. There were overthrows, late throws into coverage and careless penalties in a performance that never clicked like his touchdown total suggests.

Signature Stat: On throws 20 or more yards downfield, Mariota completed just three of the 10 he attempted.

This just in, boys:

CBS Sports' Dane Brugler notes that Oregon redshirt junior QB Marcus Mariota still "needs to improve his ball placement down the field."
"He needs to improve his ball placement down the field, especially when he can operate with a clean pocket, and doesn't always see all 11 defenders," Brugler writes. The Heisman hopeful has thrown for 3,783 yards with a 38/2 TD/INT ratio and leads the nation in passing efficiency at 186.33. On the ground, Mariota has rushed 117 times for 669 yards and 14 touchdowns. Brugler notes that Mariota showed far more good than bad against Arizona and believes he's "locked up the Heisman Trophy with his talented arm and athletic lower body.

Lombardi Trophies in Allen Park
Read option QBs fail because of the emphasis placed on first read and never going through progressions. The first read is there for QBs in college like 80% of the time. In the pros, like 20%. So, 4/5 times, the first read isn't there and there is the natural inclination to run. They don't go through progressions. Russell Wilson runs, but he's play pro style offenses in college. These other QBs have not and it shows once they show up in the pros.

Is he really the favorite to win heisman? What a wack year then. I don't trust qbs in that system. He has never wowed me so :yeshrug:

ehh, the 3-3-5 is an odd D that he wont see in the NFL

I am a little concerned about his deep ball, but think he can do enough things to make it work in the NFL. he reminds me of Jeff Garcia

Can't wait to the draft season when emthe 'experts' will talk about everything about this guy that doesn't have to do with actually being a great QB, only for the coli to fall for it yet again by the draft rolls around.

"Oh he he just ran a 4.39 40"

"Oh he displayed great accuracy in college"

"Oh he won the Heisman"

"Oh he beat Winston head to head"

"Oh he's so very young"

"Oh look at that cannon on 'em"
