Read option QBs fail because of the emphasis placed on first read and never going through progressions. The first read is there for QBs in college like 80% of the time. In the pros, like 20%. So, 4/5 times, the first read isn't there and there is the natural inclination to run. They don't go through progressions. Russell Wilson runs, but he's play pro style offenses in college. These other QBs have not and it shows once they show up in the pros.

Cause I don't think a spread QB (Oregon at that) will last in the NFL.

Spread, read-option QBs are bust material. Mariotta wont last 3 seasons, receivers wont be open all the time, and he wont run for 2-3 TDs in the NFL.
