My issue is most of his passing yards came from receivers being wide open and that will not be the case in the NFL or even against FSU on the 1st. My mouth drops when I see how open Oregon's receivers are. He'll have to prove he can throw receivers open and read defenses at the line.

You mean the same Philly team that rely on two non-mobile pocket QBs in Sanchez and Foles??

Think before you post... QB is all about what you can do from the pocket.

Period... End of story. Let's be done with this notion that dudes can have a run first mentality and go anywhere in this league. The ball travels three times faster than the fastest QBs feet.

Are really going to continue to argument???

Learn to read nikka.

:heh:When are nikkas going to realize that Oregon basically runs a spread version of the West Coast offense. This isn't RGIII 1 read and running or Kaep running the Pistol in college. It's the same shyt Chip Kelly runs and it's the same shyt that New England has concepts of in their offense. He knows how to read a defense and he doesn't just take off an run. They told him to run more cause he didn't do it enough.

most nfl teams run the spread or some form of it now so he will be fine.

Most teams have spread formations, but very few of them employ the zone-read-option(aka run) regularly which helps the QB determine what next on the decision tree.

Chip has it going in Philly, Seahawks have a hybrid of it to help Russ. The 49ers basically dumped out of the run-read-option and went to straight dropback spread formations ... basically outed Kaepernick that he can't read defenses heads up and can't make pinpoint passes. Same happened to RG3 in Washington.

With like 90% of college QBs running zone-read-option plays out of spread formations, NFL teams need to employ these type of OCs/HCs or else they're just wasting time and money trying to make guys like Mariota/Kaep/RG3 traditional dropback passers at the pro level.

Luck and Bridgewater are probably last of the Mohicans. Is Jameis a full on pro-style QB?

Rodgers grew up in Tedford's Pro-Style Offense which was overtly complex ... his playbook was basically pro-level. Even within the plays, Tedford had complex read calls from every position player.

If you read the play break-down of Cal-Tedford-Rodgers play-action pass and the Utah-Urban Meyer-Alex Smith play-action pass, you can see why Aaron ended up being the better QB and Alex is still a checkdown passer who mainly throws to TE's who overmatch LB's.

@JetLife gets it

not taking into consideration the skill sets and offense experience of qbs
is some dumbass shyt:snoop:

trying to force every QB to be the same ratio of pro-style cerebral pocket passer brady/manning is
is some dumbass shyt:snoop:

aye like I said IMO all the qb really has to do is take the snaps
how you move the ball is up to you:sas1::sas2:*

this board is cool but it's clear that like 90+% of the posters here watch little, if any, college football

the opinions are strong as hell though

this is the shyt i'm talking about

no one in college runs a west coast offense. not even close. i think the last coach to even attempt to run it was Bill Callahan at Nebraska, and it was a complete disaster.

No. Just no. I'm not breaking down the entire thing, but not even close to overtly complex. That was the most useless write up I have ever read.

On topic, just based on physical gifts alone Mariota is a top 15 pick. He's 6'4" 220 lbs is accurate, got an arm, and for a running QB he's dedicated to staying in the pocket. Some cat earlier in the thread say he wouldn't take that in the first 3 rounds. Ole boy should never be allowed to watch football again.

I'd take Mariota after Winston. Mariota can be a good QB but I think he'll take more years to get there than Winston will. Winston is more of a "sure thing". After Mariota I like Connor Cook and that's it.
