So much depends on the team owners man.

I either earned (or inherited ) enough money to own a team, now what do I want out of it?

1) Am I willing to lose money?
2) Am I looking to make money?
3) Am I willing to hire people to manage it for me or do I want to do it myself?
4) How important is winning to me?
5) How important are the fans to me?

If you have an invested owner who is interested in winning and investing in the fans and the players, you hope to hell that franchise is tanking when necessary.

That Bill Simmons plan might have to be put into play for all the non-playoff teams to try and prevent all this blatant losing.

It's not fair to the paying fans.

Tanking is a made up problem. The worst team in the league last year didn't even have a draft pick. And with Bill's idea, we will still see tons of accusations of tanking. If his idea was in place, whoever doesn't make it out of the Clippers, Jazz, and Pelicans would be accused of missing the playoffs purposely to get a chance at a #1 overall.

I think Mavs fans understand the process. If they bought tickets with the expectations of seeing a winning team this year, But for paying fans of other teams, is anyone going to be upset that they saw their team beat a struggling Mavs team?
