Mark Cuban: Should Lakers amnesty Kobe Bryant?

I think the comment is attracting attention due to the D Howard situation. We know Kobe and Howard are not getting along well. Add on that just he other day the Lakers GM was sweatin Howard hard, even going so far as to say here would be a statue of him outside the Staples Center one day

So if they are lovin Howard so much, and he and Kobe arent clicking, and Kobe is owed 30mil next season...

No he didn't. He only said Kobe wasn't worth 30 million to a team that's deep in the luxury tax and, as of today, not even in the playoffs. On the court, that's true. Only Lebron's worth half of a team's cap.

But once you take into account Kobe's worldwide marketability off the court, amnestying Kobe is a silly idea. Which is why I called his point "unrealistic", and just a way to troll Kobe stans, which is working BTW.

When you amnesty a player it just means their contract doesn't count towards your cap. That player STILL gets their money. With a player of Kobe's caliber he'd sure as hell wouldn't clear waivers so it'd be a situation where the Lakers would be paying Kobe Bryant to play and generate revenue for another team.

shyt also ignores the fact that after next season the Lakers (as of now) only have one contract on the books. If everything goes according to plan there'll be 3 contracts on the books:

Dwight's Max, the final year of Nash's deal, and whatever contract they work out for Clark.

Even if Kobe comes back it'll probably be a similar deal as what Nash has right now.
