right, just cuz they're not the hottest, sexiest, most known name doesn't make them immediately

This! Yea, while Bruce Arians would have been a equally good hire this is not bad. People hear CFL and begin thinking minor league. There are plenty of really good and innovative coaches who are not in the NFL. However, like many situations people want that BIG hire. They want a college head coach from a school like Notre Dame or Alabama; or a "proven" coordinator like Darrell Bevell. Not saying any of these would have be bad choices just saying the Trestman hire is not bad just because people don't follow the CFL and never heard of the guy.
