I think he might mean the other car accident when she got hit by the flower truck. I know me. . If she would have . . say for example suffered brain damage in that accident. Nah I would not have left her. We would have just figured it out. If we had kids. . I would have been super sucking that shyt up. I would not have left either.

Now. . It WAS easier to leave because we did not have a bond with kids, and she was not seriously hurt at the time. I in essence did have an OUT. I will not lie though. . I felt guilty about breaking the vows. Of course later I felt extra crappy after it all went down.

Yeah.. you shouldnt use having kids as a plan to change someone. It's kinda like when women get pregnant thinking it will make a man stay. She couldve been a super strict mom, and expected her kids to be like her.

I just believe in that 80/20 rule. No one is perfect...

So it's not really trying to change her, but I'm a homebody as well. But I know that kids need to get out and do stuff. Sports, school, band, etc. that's all I was trying to say. It's healthy for them

But I agree with what he was going through. It probably felt like a prison but she was stuck in her ways

Wow. This thread took hold of me and would not let go. It was my "leisure reading" for the day while I went through chores and a paper I had to write. You are an incredible story teller @General Mills, I'm just sorry that the stories (both, but especially the one about wife #2) were full of such sadness. Life can be so crazy, for real. I have taken some major Ls, but none that I'd consider on the scale of either of these. Other people tell me my life is like a movie, and maybe it is, but it doesn't feel glamorous whatsoever when I'm going through it. Thanks for sharing your stories, I liked seeing the camaraderie amongst the majority of the Coli members.

Edited to add: The thing about going through dark times is that you have a greater appreciation for the light.

Catharsis is good. Writing is my catharsis, anyway. Glad it helped you, and it seemed to have taught some life lessons for everyone, I think. I'm glad I finally joined the Coli (in January) after lurking for 2 years. Haha just like with my actual family, sometimes this place gets on my nerves, but then I come back because there's something good about it too.

Janet seemed like a great person but just not marriage material for General Mills. She seemed like the date and then befriend later category. I guess it would have been fine had she evolved to be more social and active. The fact her church seemed quite strict was a bad factor for her.

Also the fact that she wasn't an outgoing person was a marriage killer. Surprisingly I read that very introverted and extroverted people usually don't date marry very long. It is actually a big factor for divorce.
