MCSO Montgomery County Detention Facility correction officer Shemarra Montgomery is accused of having sex with inmate Desmonte Leonard, who is charged with capital murder in a 2012 mass shooting.

An accused mass shooter was getting frisky with an Alabama correction officer while behind bars on capital murder charges, according to a chief deputy.

Montgomery County Correction Officer Shemarra Montgomery briefly joined suspected killer Desmonte Leonard in custody Tuesday after arrested for having sexual relations with the 22-year-old inmate, Chief Deputy Derrick Cunningham told AL.com.

Cunningham said Montgomery was caught on camera having inappropriate contact with Leonard in June leading to an investigation that revealed evidence of the pair having sexual intercourse.

In a surprise twist, Montgomery's husband, Curtis Montgomery, was also arrested for allegedly lying to deputies to hinder his wife's prosecution.

Curtis is also a correction officer, though his wife resigned from her position on Wednesday, WSFA reported.

Leonard is behind bars waiting trial for the shooting deaths of 20-year-olds DeMario Pitts and former Auburn University football players Ladarious Phillips and Ed Christian on June 9, 2012.

Shemarra and Curtis Montgomery have since posted bond of $10,000 and $1,000, respectively.

Cunningham said Leonard assisted in their investigation into the alleged sex scandal and will not face disciplinary action.
