I don't know. I could see most of the stand-ups that would've been successful albums being released as taped specials - at least for the bigger names. If you're an up and comer though without the access to production resources for a televised special I could see an album being a good look. Cats with a more physical presence and delivery instead of jokes that are actually funny like Kevin Hart would get exposed real quick if they dropped an album.
