David Goyer and new line cinema ruined Blade, after Wesley built the character up out of the gutter.

Marvel just never did shyt with the character in the comics because they don't put effort into black characters like that unless they're thrown in side kicks

only exception is when an extremely popular writer has a pet fav. (that happens to be black) and decides to put said character in the spotlight. (Bendis/Luke Cage)
