This. I'm sorry, but no. A one time payment to get one party's feet off the ground, sure. Child support til the kid is 18. I'm with it. Kids gotta eat no matter what. But years and years ahead of paying an ex spouse monthly? Why is this still a thing?
Alimony harkens back to a patriarchal time when being a mother and a wife was a woman's only prospect of being financially secure. In 2022 a woman has pretty much the same access to a job, an income and financial security as her male counterpart. Unless it's absolutely necessary I don't understand how we still got women OR men out here beign ordered to pay their spouse for years after divorcing. Maybe I'm still too young to understand but the shyt is just cruel at this point.
