Maryland lawmakers approve automatic voter registration

Maryland lawmakers gave final approval Wednesday to a bill that would automatically register residents to vote when they deal with certain state agencies, including when obtaining or renewing driver’s licenses.

Residents would have the ability to opt out from being registered to vote, and those who do register would be able to pick whether to join a political party or register as an unaffiliated voter.

I'm curious how this would work in states where it's necessary to register as a Dem/Rethug to vote in primaries.

I saw an NJ.com op-ed asking Murphy to push for automatic voter registration on FB and the entirety of the top comments were people saying that it would allow illegal immigrants to vote and that combined with Sanctuary State status...it would be the end of NJ as we know it (mind you we're just coming off the Christie disaster and about to get smacked by the tax bill removing SALT). It's incredible how insane the fight against this obvious, common sense idea has become.

in Maryland, the black areas have the most power.

Sadly, black people have never won the Governorship in the state. (But black people been mayors and county execs in the three biggest jurisdictions in the state)
