Compare figures from the two links:

Maryland had 3.4% Black unemployment in Q2 2024 which was the lowest state with enough Black folks to be statistically accurate. It was almost 3% below the Black national average of 6.3%. Fast forward to today and it is now at 5.2%, just 1% lower than national Black unemployment at 6.2% and lower than Alabama (4.6%) and Georgia (4.9%) and nearly on par with Florida and Mississippi (5.4%). Virginia Black employment is also at 5.1% up from 4.2% last year which made it in the lowest top 5 unemployment as well. Granted the quality of jobs in those other states is lower but they are serious about burning Black wealth in the DMV.

This is one of the main purposes of the federal lay offs imo
And it's a domino effect because so many black entrepreneurs in the DMV do contracting and services for federal agencies
Trump will eliminate any federal budgets that prioritized minority businesses and fire senior black federal employees who made decisions on whether or not to hire black civilian businesses for gov contracts

In Addition to the Fed layoffs, Governor Moore initiated a state hiring freeze in MD and is offering state employees voluntary buyouts to reduce personnel costs.

Also state employees will not receive merit raises or step increases......only a 1 % cost-of-living raise.

I lived and worked over there for a while. Lot of stuck up people with cakewalk govt positions in office acting like they were gods gift to humanity because they were a scale whatever. Im sure a lot of bougie people are acting fake humble right now because belts are tightening. It is still unfortunate that otherwise modest people have been impacted.

We’re pretty much rolling towards a recession.

I’m curious to see where we will land, employment/unemployment and more recent salaries relative to number of undergraduate and master degree holding Black people and industries.

A number of people I know have been getting let go from their roles.

OP you always be on point with the sources do you know offhand of reputable “think tanks” or orgs that measure something along these lines?

Above the fray.

Trash take.

I'm glad that the board is splintering. Threads covering stories about Black people suffering somehow always seem to have these kind of callous takes.
Whether its about people encountering racist policies, job loss, or violence/homicides.

Will block you.
Once everybody goes their separate ways, hope to steer clear of people without empathy for their own folks.
