Based on this book, it seems like the male characters to a certain extent mirror the shows' creators

I think the people who hated Skylar just thought of the show as escapism. Like Walt can be making meth, ruining people's lives, etc but Skylar is still a bytch of a c*nt a hundred times because she's standing in the way of Walt's goals. I also think it's another part illiteracy, in a way. Like it cannot be spelled out any more obvious how shyt of a person Walt is, these people just don't give a fukk or refuse to see it that way. Also these dudes probably hate women to begin with.

As for the sitcom shyt, it's all regurgitations of expected gender roles in that men are the breadwinners, kinda dopey but always fun while women rule the house but they nag too much and kill the mood.

Eh....you also gotta take into consideration it was virtually impossible to have a fully fleshed out character, or a heavily serialized story back then. So the jobs had to be some run-of-the-mill shyt, and the characters were one dimensional.

I'm not saying Ricky Ricardo would've been a drug dealer or murderer or anything like that, I'm saying the option of making an antihero/compelling villain wasn't there, at all. So both the heroes and villains were painted in broad strokes of "this guy is good, this guy is bad".

Fred.

It might not have even been considered.

I can't count the number of times I've had to try and explain to people that Walt was not doing it for his family, that he was abusiv to Skyler and Jessee, that he was bytchmade in all of season 4, that he was driven by his ego, that he was not someone you're supposed to idolize, that he really wasn't the one who knocked etc etc.
