It was too good of a gimmick to just drop, but I do think it had a limited shelf life if they didn't at least tweak it. The voice he was using seemed pretty contrived, and handing out the bags at ringside got old pretty quick. But yeah, best thing he ever did, and he did it extremely well. They should have kept the gimmick and just tweaked and evolved it. It had main-event potential.

I miss when they were actually trying with Cody. Even when he first took the mask off he still had good momentum. The feud with Big Show IMO screwed everything up. Now he's nothing and doing nothing. 
I liked the bags. It showed his psychosis was spreading. Not only did he see himself as ugly, he saw the world as ugly as well. After Orton busted him open they should have had him go full psycho.
But yeah, definitely a top five character of the past 10 years. Just good writing and a good performance by Rhodes.

Yeah they fukked it up. He was developing a persona that was getting reactions then all of a sudden it was abruptly dropped. Dude could of been on that Doc' Doom steez and honestly in the upper midcard

An utter shame from the look, the promos (it was through this phase that I realized Cody can cut intense and cocky promos WELL), and the match psychology Cody was on point. Even little things like remixing his theme (Masked Cody's theme was my fav theme last year even more than Cult of Personality) went a long way into selling his character.
Mysterio was an obvious target w/ the mask and the feud w/ Orton also had meaning since they had history together. He played the "crazy" persona extremely well and going all out w/ a two kinds of crazy feud vs Orton could've been excellent for Orton's character who could use this feud to show a little more insanity than his face character allowed.
Liggins made a good post on the bags becoming his suffering expressed outwardly and they could've played it up by putting bags on plants, Cody coming out w/ an entourage of people wearing masks and bags and cutting promos about ugliness in the WWE. Over time when the "injuries" obviously healed then he could gain heat by using the mask as a weapon. They could show vignettes of Cody looking into the mirror at his "ugliness" similar to his dashing gimmick but darker. If he stopped using the mask he could've cut promos about how he's once again the most beautiful and no one is more dashing than he is while maintaining his new psychotic and delusional persona. It would bring Dashing/Masked Cody Rhodes full circle.

The botching of Disfigured Cody is the reason that I NEVER put trust in anything the WWE does. This angle wrote itself and they threw it in the bushes. Maybe it was too dark or complex for the little snot nosed fukks they cater to so it had to go. So don't hold your breath about a Cena heel turn, Bryan meaning something, or CM Punk having a decent heel run. All heels are supposed to laughable losers, whiny, cocky, or cowardly. Faces are cheesy goody-goods telling corny jokes and doing corny things.
