The year 3030

It's been almost a year since Anthony "Top Dawg" Tiffith posted the label's 2016 schedule on Instagram with the caption "shyt about to get nasty real soon..." Among the more intriguing entries on the whiteboard—aside from the note to pray for a Black Hippy album—were two artists identified only as John Doe 1 and John Doe 2.

The first mystery man turned out to be Lance SkiiWalker, but the identity of the second John Doe was only revealed last month. Turns out he's Inglewood-born soul man SiR, who will be familiar to TDE fans from previous collabs with Jay Rock (who turns out to be his relative) and Isaiah Rashad. SiR announced last night via his IG that he'll be dropping a new project called HERToo this Friday. What better time, then, to get familiar with this accomplished singer songwriter who's worked with the likes of Jill Scott, Anita Baker, and Stevie Wonder? During a recent visit to Mass Appeal HQ, SiR spoke about growing up in a churchified musical family with a gang-affiliated father and big brother, about putting his high school hoop dreams on hold to pursue music, and about why he'll never let the Top Dawg down.
