No White American over 65 did not grow up at a time when segregation and lynching's were not sanctioned by the States.
Think about it. You are White in your 20s, Black people by law are to be kept in the gutter and that is all you have ever known. Within a matter of years everything is evened over and now youre supposed to respect and be tolerant of a people you were taught by your family and government to hate and treat like shyt. That is why every old White man or Woman cannot be not deemed as racist, that is how they were brought up at the core. They hide it because it is no longer acceptable, but it is who and what they are.

This was the 1970s...not the 1920s.
He had full exposure to MLK, Malcolm, the Black Panthers, Medgar Evers, James Baldwin,Angela Davis, Muhammed Ali, Rosa Parks, the marches, the riots etc etc...the insight, the speeches, the literature were all out there. People's eyes were pretty much open at that point.
