Massive Anti-Trump Protest Planned for Inauguration Day in DC
WASHINGTON, DC — Donald Trump's shocking upset over Hillary Clinton in the presidential election isn't even two days old, and already protesters are planning to converge in downtown D.C. on Inauguration Day, Jan. 20.
A new Facebook group titled "Protest at the Inauguration: Stand Against Trump, War, Racism and Inequality" already has 15,000 people who are interested as of early Thursday afternoon and more than 4,000 who have confirmed they are going, and that number if almost certain to grow in the coming weeks.
"Progressive people from all over the country will be descending on Washington, D.C. on January 20, 2017 to stage a massive demonstration along Pennsylvania Avenue on Inauguration Day," the Facebook group's page states. "It is critically important that we keep building a larger grassroots movement against war, militarism, racism, anti-immigrant scapegoating and neoliberal capitalism’s assault against workers’ living standards and the environment."
The ANSWER (Act Now to Stop War & End Racism) Coalition appears to be behind the protest. It will take place at 7 a.m. Jan. 20 at 1355 Pennsylvania Ave. NW.
The day after the election was marked with widespread protests in front of Trump properties, including here in D.C. at the Trump International Hotel.
His opponents have accused him of using racist and sexist rhetoric and being unfit to lead the United States. He was heavily predicted to lose on Election Day, with some even suggesting a landslide in Clinton's favor was possible, but a last minute groundswell of support that wasn't spotted by pollsters helped him score a surprise upset over Clinton, who had been leading throughout the campaign.
