"Mastermind" by Rick Ross drops almost four years ago. What's he gotta do to reach that point again?

Low key, that album had great singles and guest spots and is one of the best albums I've heard in the last five years. Ross was killing everything from "Deeper Than Rap" to "Teflon Don" and "GFID" and finally "Mastermind." Really, a nice four-album stretch.

But as I play back "Mastermind" right now, I look at Ross' discography and realize he's dropped three studio albums in the four years since ... and none of them made No. 1 on the charts. None of them even moved 200k units total.

He's had no solo hits in the years since, nor has he captured anything close to the buzz he had for so many years. Honestly, a lot of the same things could be said about Jeezy.

I want to toss this one of the armchair A&Rs of The Coli. What should Ross do to get his name back in the mainstream? Or did his shtick just fizzle out and this new second- or third-tier status is his reality now? He's proved he can make music accepted commercially and with the streets.

He needs to make a classic ass album. Ross could make such a great, great album if it was sonically cohesive.
It's been said many a times but...Justice LEAGUE could probably cook up a beautiful soundtrack for that.

As far as mainstream goes Im not sure though. But the culture would love him for it.

I really don't know cause his last album was universally praised but failed to stick around. I loved Black Market but I couldn't keep it in rotation so his ship may have just sailed. It's a shame cause he did have an amazing run but his style of rap may just be dead

I agree...Ross actually tries to RAP....

He doesn't fit in with these drugged out pill popping kids today who ain't trying to rap i.e (lil pump...6-9) etc...

I think he should just remained bossed up on the executive level

Fukk RAPPING

leave it to the kids

Rather You Than Me got that fire on it

Black Dollar was the classic album everybody was looking for, he just released it as a mixtape.

The peak of his career commercially is like from 2009 to 2012 when he put out Rich Forever :wow: and GFID

He just doesn’t pump out hits anymore... chalk it up to climate change :yeshrug:
