Fourteen witnesses were called, including the victim's father who was the prosecution's main witness. He told the courts that on the night of the murder, he and his son had retired to bed in their respective rooms. He recalled that about 3:30 a.m., he heard the door to his son's room being 'kicked off' before hearing gunshots.
He witnessed his son falling to the ground while clutching his chest. He also said Hinds questioned if he (the eyewitness) was also to be killed. He said Brooks and one of the others replied 'No, (him) no fi dead".
The father's testimony also included gruesome details of how his son's killers attempted to sever his head but declared that the machete, which was handed over by Brooks, was too dull. That other person then emptied a gun into Thomas's head. The house was then torched after the accused and the others left. This same person then requested the gas, poured some on the deceased, throughout the house, and then lit a fire. The father also testified that the day before the incident, he received word that his son was going to be killed and made arrangements for him to stay elsewhere.
