If Jim was a real man he'd had let him out of his contracts and be done with him there. Instead he held a real vendetta and just wouldn't budge. That's why Max was on his ass. There was zero reason for Max to be on Jim except the fact that Jim wouldn't let Max eat. Even after he left his crew.
