Independents as in unaffiliated voters can. It's just some people accidentally registered to some right wing party that called the Independence Party. That's where you hear some people complaining about 500,000 people can't or something like that.

here u can register as american independent or No Party Preference... only No Party Preference and democrats can for bernie, independents cant... we dont have a regular independent selection... the no box would be no party preference and they can vote, i can see how it threw them off.

Independents mean no party. Everytime you've heard Independents online or in the media, they are talking about unaffiliated voters. In California, there's that party which is misleading people and then they can't vote because they aren't Dem or truly Independent. So yea fukk that right wing party.

Yeah but if you actually read it it's asking Do you want to register with a party. Not which one. Then the "no" box is off to the right.

Not saying it's the best way to do it but still.

In New York, I don't think there even is an American Independence party and I've only heard about people being confused and this being an issue in California. I'm pretty sure this probably wasn't an issue for most other states.

American Independent Party - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Seems like a California only political party.

Makes no sense why any primary is not open.
The thought is that people in the party will crossover to sabotage a candidate.

But since the parties use tax payer money from all sides to carry these out atleast let the Independents vote and have a say.

State parties chose. Closed primaries ensure people that more align with the state party big wigs get the nom. Hence why Cruz and Hilltron did better in closed states while Trump and Sanders had the advantage in open states.

All primaries should be open though for democracy sake.

Hilltron has more wins than Bernie in closed, open primaries, and swing states. .
