That's horrible. I couldn't imagine having to see that from my son and it's nothing I could do. I can't even imagine having to send to a loved one knowing I am about to die.

This is touching and maybe I'm just stupid...but why would he stay at that house if he knew a tornado was heading that way? The neighbor that survived was only a few houses down...Furthermore, why stay in the area at all if there's a damn tornado? I'm sure there were warnings to evacuate, right?

Tornadoes are unpredictable. If you don't have a storm shelter, you stay in your house and pray to survive. Hindsight is always 20/20.

Yeah tornados hop around. You can't tell where they will hit. They can destroy your neighbor's house but not even scratch yours.


I heard this story on NPR this morning. I had no idea he texted her goodbye

What about ahead of time? Is it hard to drive to a neighboring city and stop at a hotel or something? You can't tell me that there is no such thing as a tornado warning, especially when it's that severe.

What the others have said is true. One came through here one time with absolutely NO warning. It sounded like a train. Thank GOD it wasn't a big one , but it did major damage. Destroyed homes uprooted huge trees and it honestly could not have lasted more than 2 minutes. It was quite amazing.
