I think its the exact opposite with Kendrick. GKMC and TPAB are such "big statement" albums, so he doesn't really strike me as the type of artist who would have nothing to say. He likely took a break after Damn because it was such a big album, touring it and all that, and then when he finally did get back in the studio he went into perfectionist mode. He knows expectations are sky high with his music so he's prolly taking his time with it. Also artists take breaks and go on hiatuses, it is what it is. Nas took six after LIG and look how long D'Angelo took between Voodoo and Black Messiah.

Listening to his entire catalog recently, Kendrick doesn’t strike me as someone who will make songs just to make them.

He doesn’t lead the life of a celebrity. I don’t see him rapping about being a family man as he has always kept his normal life private. And he’s already rich, so the trying to make it struggle raps are over.
