Those fast food workers are better off applying to hospitality, school and catering type food based jobs. I work at a middle school cafeteria. Automation will not hit jobs like mine cause you need an human element to see if food is spoiled out of date and you have to prepare meals by recipe size and use utensils by hand.

Thats going to be replace as well.

Companies don't require people to function. At least , not those in the bottom. Give it 10 years , and you will see the same thing in the taxi business.
A lot of jobs are going to be replaced by machines and they most likely provide a better service.
companies need someone to buy their products and if everyone is automating, then that means that many many people are out of work. so who is going to be buying the shyt that is being produced in the economy when the purchasing power is way down? that would mean recession or worse bc everything would eventually grind to a halt.

I went into a McDonald's for the first time in years recently. Not saying I haven't been in the drive thru, but this is the first time I've been actually inside a fast food place in years. Flat screens absolutely everywhere depicting things. Self order stations. Goddamn the future really taking off lol

Crime rate in this country will be insane in another 10-15 years.

This country isn't ready for automation, on any level. Be it the social welfare system, the economy, our justice system...etc. Everyone is going to be fukked to some level, except the uber rich. Think about it...Switzerland couldn't even pass a UBI (universal basic income) last year. If they can't get it done there, how the fukk is a country as backwards as the US on social/economic issues gonna do it.

Trump isn't the only faux populist promising a return to the old days. Bernie Sanders did a lot of that in 2016 too, promising jobs that will NEVER come back to the US (manufacturing) in full. We're going to have to deal with politicians and movements like this for awhile. The fights over this will further delay any agreement on UBI.

Thats going to be replace as well.
It will be impossible to do for the schools cause one person can't do everything. Sometimes a person who makes fruit could take 2 hours to make and pan out before serving. Imagine a robot malfunction doing that when we have deadlines to have everything to prepare before serving time

I went to McDonalds today. It’s fukked up they trying to get rid of their jobs. The kids today (15-24) deserve to have those early career jobs like we had. But what you expect from white people? They worked retail all through college, kept their bellies full and their little bills paid, they may have hated the job but it was money in their pocket when they needed it but now they’re in positions of power and authority they forgot all that and want to automate and offshore jobs knowing it’s gonna fukk over the kids that are trying to start their lives out now.

What you saying is good but the past is the past. You are right about the young high school and college students taking a hit but their generation is capable of adapting. Anyone older than 25 working McDonald’s as a career needs a friend or better yet a career advisor to steer them towards a future.
I used to work retail for a company and believe me once you get into that routine it’s hard to break it. Managers telling you have it good and easy and not think about stuff you can’t change. It’s brain washing. I did this for about 6 years till I demanded to be cut or promoted to corporate. Best decision moving up it opened me to other fields when the company went bankrupt.
A friend of mine who stayed there after the bankruptcy had his hours and pay cut for 6 years before the new company went bankrupt again and he hasn’t worked in almost 2 years, thinking the company will comeback and retail is the only thing he can do.

this is good news

it will only makes Universal Basic Income a bit closer to being a reality

I wish I had your optimism. We can't even adopt the most basic of progressive policies in this country. As I said earlier, Switzerland which is far ahead of us in many ways couldn't get UBI done (it failed in a referendum vote).

I would expect YEARS of conservative griping over being paid by the govt to do nothing, "why don't we fix our economy instead of giving people handouts" etc etc etc.
