Exactly and I mentioned this before in relation to people clowning old school rappers dressing ridiculous. Like Grandmaster Flash and The Furious Five looking like wrestlers.

Hip-hop initially had no direction so it took cues from the sh*t you mentioned. Including the over the top outfits. By the mid 80's it found it's own voice though.
