Me n my girl made our first gumbo

Was actually pretty good but I feel like I should've let the roux get more brown like dark brown to really give it that gumbo taste




For the record we used no beef or pork

I did use gumbo file just not enough.
You're right about the dried shrimp
Smoked turkey sausage and chicken andouille sausage.

Is the roux what gives it that gumbo flavor that distincts it from every other soup?

Roux just thickens it up. Flavor comes from the file' and other ingredients
