I had a sweet domain name, shyt ddin't auto-renew...tried re-registering, now it's $2888 from the regular $30 or whatever I was paying before
Fawk grubhub and their shady drivers picking on your food. Hopefully more awareness will be made so people will get their website up then signup to them, or other service

1. This isn’t the free market at work.
2. Never claimed the market was perfect...
3. mom and pop aren’t being “prevented” from anything as far a I can tell. They just have to be more creative with their domain names.

Sucks, but to say they can’t is simply false.

Don’t question the purity of the market, Pleb. -Lord Free Market

They are posting shadow pages of the restaurants themselves, that itself is very restrictive. They don't pay grubhub to be a competitor.

Yep, go through grubhub to order/review/buy food from the restaurant. They start shyt, they start forcing bad reviews even if they aren't true.

I stopped ordering from grub hub a few weeks ago off the way they sneak ignore you changing your tip amount. I’ll never touch them again off this story.

When you create a GrubHub account. If you don't already have a website GrubHub will buy a domain and create a portal for you to get traffic and thus increase the amount of online/GrubHub orders.

If you want your domain back contact GrubHub and they will let it expire and then you can cop. Did this a few times with different restaurants. This article is overblown, they only buy domains of businesses that have accounts as part of marketing.

This is still bad business:

- GrubHub has no idea what other types of marketing or business ventures these restaurants have, because they don't have an exact named domain means nothing.
- The portal does not benefit the business if they have no control over it nor the contact information displayed on it. This only benefits GrubHub.
- The restaurant has to wait for GH's domain registration to expire AFTER explicitly contacting them about a practice that is clearly not well communicated.

You need to understand that the GrubHub rep asks if the business wants this first before doing it. If a business already has a website they just provide the script to embed their ordering platform. The owners usually agree to this, and because they have no marketing strategy themselves, completely forget about it then complain later that GrubHub "stole" their domain. I've seen it happen.

You can make changes to the site by contacting your rep. GrubHub has no incentive to pay for domain and website setup for businesses they have no connection to.

What they’re doing is making sure that if you want an online presence, which you have to, that you have to go through their platform. They can take care of all your needs as a business such as site layout, menus and pricing. But it would ultimately be a Grub Hub site where they would make money from the delivery fees. It’s not a bad idea. It’s very helpful. There are a lot of restaurants that I’ve found out about because of Grub Hub and Uber Eats. It makes discovery of your business easier. It’s also predatory because Grub Hub isn’t giving you the option of doing any of this all on your own. They know that most people will get frustrated and just acquiesce though.
